about

Acclaimed UK Producer Louis La Roche returns with his fourth studio album, ‘We’re Not So Different’, released on Ever After Records on 29 October. With nods to the halcyon, free-spirited days of disco and the early origins of house music, the sixteen tracks on ‘We’re Not So Different’ could easily have lit up the iconic dancefloors of The Loft, Studio 54, and Paradise Garage.

Whilst the global pandemic affected everyone in 2020, for Louis La Roche, last year was especially difficult due to a near death experience in his family followed by his own personal burnout. As such, ‘We’re Not So Different’ became Louis La Roche’s escapism. Louis La Roche said: “This album is very personal to me. It’s like a journey inside my head. I can hear my childhood in these songs, my influences, and my idols. I can hear sadness, self-reflection, frustration and my insecurities but mainly this is an uplifting album, both in tone and subject matter.”

With 2020 the 40th Anniversary of Studio 54 closing, Louis La Roche thought how much had changed since 1980. With racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia still rife, he felt that disco summed up a generation, and the current generation shared more in common than previously thought. Hence the title ‘We’re Not So Different’.

Louis La Roche added: “Disco started in gay clubs and was pioneered mainly by the LGBTQ+ and black communities. It was an escapism from the discrimination they were facing on the streets. So, I wanted to build my own world. Channel the pain I was feeling into something positive. I delved into my influences and my strong connection between Disco and House Music. Whether it’s Pop, Funk, IDM, Leftfield, Breakbeat, Trip Hop, Rock, they can all find a common link with Disco and House and so you can mold them together to blur the lines a little bit.
